Prayers for the Poor Souls in Purgatory
"If it were but known how great is the power of the good souls in Purgatory with the Heart of God, and if we knew all the graces we can obtain through their intercession, they would not be so much forgotten. We must, therefore, pray much for them, that they may pray much for us."
---St. John Vianney
O LORD GOD ALMIGHTY! I beseech Thee, by the Precious Blood which Thy divine Son, Jesus, shed in the Garden, deliver the souls in Purgatory, especially the most forsaken one, and bring it into Thy glory, there to praise Thee and bless Thee for ever. Amen.
King of Glory
O Lord Jesus Christ, King of glory, through the inter- cession of Mary and all the saints, free the souls of the faithful departed from the punishments of Purgatory. And you, St. Michael, standard-bearer of the heavenly army. guide them to the holy light promised by the Lord to Abraham and to his descendants. I offer You, O Lord, sacrifices and prayers of praise. Accept them for these souls and admit them to eternal light and joy. Amen.
For Our Own Beloved Dead
Good Jesus, whose loving Heart was ever troubled by the sorrows of others, look with pity on the souls of our dear ones in Purgatory. O You, who "loved Your own," hear our cry for mercy, and grant that those whom You called from our homes and hearts, may soon enjoy ever- lasting rest in the home of Your love in heaven. Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine on them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
The Golden Arrow
May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and unutterable name of God be always praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified in heaven, on earth and under the earth by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Amen.
Offering of the Precious Blood
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, in satisfaction for my sins, in supplication for the holy souls in Purgatory and for the needs of Holy Church
Offering of the Holy Face
Eternal Father, since Thou hast given me for my inheritance the Adorable Face of Thy Divine Son, I offer that Face to Thee. I beg Thee, in exchange for this coin of infinite value, to forget the ingratitude of souls dedicated to Thee and to pardon all poor sinners..
--St. Therese of Lisieux
Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory O gentle Heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the poor captive souls in Purgatory, have mercy on them.
Be not severe in Your judgements, but let some drops of Your Precious Blood fall upon the devouring flames.
And, Merciful Savior, send Your angels to conduct them to a place of refreshment, light and peace. Amen.
O My Jesus
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell; lead all souls to Heaven, especially those most in need of Thy Mercy.
II Mach. 12:46
It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that may be loosed from sins.
May the Souls of All the Faithful Departed through the Mercy of God Rest in Peace! Amen.
